As a featured performer in the Coronado School of the Arts’ production of “Starting Here, Starting Now,” Point Loma native Tatiana Holthaus will share a thing or two she’s learned about love. Staged at Coronado High School’s intimate Black Box Theatre, the production, which features a cast of 17 CoSA students, will highlight different facets of the romantic experience.
“It’s pretty much about all the different stages in a relationship,” Holthaus said. “It’s about love.”
CoSa Director Kristine McClung said several things were taken into account when choosing the production.
“We have only one small space right now, so we wanted a show that had a small number of cast members in it which features what our kids do the best, which is singing and dancing.”
As for what audiences can expect, McClung offered, “I’ve seen the show twice now and I thinks it’s sophisticated humor and our kids really pull it off. They are wonderful.”
Presented as a musical revue, the show comprises a series of songs, each highlighting a different story, according to Holthaus.
Holthaus, a singer since age 6, has two solo performances: “Watching the Big Parade Go By” and “I’m a Little Bit Off.”
“I’m really excited for it,” she said of the production. “It’s going to be one of my last shows at CoSA and I’m very proud to be a part of it. Everyone’s very talented.”
According to a press release, CoSA is an arts school within Coronado High School. Attending students choose from one of five disciplines: musical theatre, instrumental music, dance, visual art or technical theatre. Students must audition for admission. CoSA accepts students from throughout San Diego County who apply, audition and meet the entrance standards.”
On her future, Holthaus said she plans to continue singing and acting.
“I intend to pursue a career in musical theatre “” hopefully Broadway,” she said. “I’m applying to colleges right now to get a B.A. in musical theatre and music.”
The production will conclude its run Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $12 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. For more information, call (619) 522-8969.
