The Ocean Beach Historical Society is launching plans for its 13th annual OB Exposed! event May 15. The event is a photo exhibition and competition of photos taken in the Ocean Beach and Point Loma areas.
OB Exposed! was begun in 1995 to preserve the photographic history of the area and to create an archive. OB Historical Society President Pat James said the event has grown since then.
“It’s really become a popular event in the community,” James said. “It’s pretty neat because there are a lot of people interested in the Ocean Beach Historical Society.”
While the historical society is in the process of soliciting submissions, the actual OB Exposed! Event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 15 at the Masonic Lodge, 1711 Sunset Cliffs Blvd.
Meanwhile, the Ocean Beach Historical Society is calling for residents to submit photos to the archives. These photos will also be judged during the event. The deadline to submit photos is Friday, May 9 and the cost to enter is $1 per photo.
Categories in the competition are best in show, best black and white, best color, best vintage, best child’s under age 16, best special effects, and people’s choice, where those in attendance will have the opportunity to decide which portrait they like best. NBC reporter and television personality Ken Kramer is expected to judge the entries, along with members of the historical society.
Winners of the contest will have their work displayed in the Ocean Beach Branch Library after the contest. The archive itself is in the Point Loma Methodist Church, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd., and can be viewed by appointment.
The photo contest is open to all ages. Anyone interested in submitting a photo can do so by dropping off submissions at James Gang Graphics, 1931 Bacon St., between 9 a.m and 5 p.m. during business days. For more information, call (619) 225-2273.
