Discover Pacific Beach is holding their second annual charity golf tournament Friday, April 25 at Mission Bay Golf Course. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit Concerts on the Green, the free summer concert series held at Kate Sessions Memorial Park beginning Sunday, July 20.
“With Concerts on the Green there was just a need there,” said Sara Berns, program manager with Discover Pacific Beach. “It’s a really successful event we have and we do have to pay for everything, but we like to offer that as a free concert series.”
Berns said a fraction of the funds will be donated to other Discover Pacific Beach projects, including beach cleanups and graffiti removal. Discover Pacific Beach Executive Director Ben Nicholls said the goal for this year’s tournament is to raise $3,000, which would cover at least two concerts.
Last year’s tournament raised almost $5,000, according to Nicholls. The money went toward neighborhood cleanups and graffiti removal.
Registration costs $300 for a foursome. In addition to playing 18 holes, teams will get lunch beverages and can enter a drawing for raffle prizes.
For those who pose a hazard to others with the shot, there are other ways to get involved. Local businesses can partake in the tournament as par or hole sponsors.
Hole sponsors can invest $150 for signage and product placement at a specific hole. For those businesses that still want to golf, par sponsors can invest $450 for a foursome, business signage and product placement at a hole. Included in each group’s investment is the donation of a gift to the raffle valued at $100. Businesses can also provide in-kind donations for the raffles.
Nicholls said the tournament is a great way for community members to get together.
“We want neighborhood folks to come out and enjoy themselves,” Nicholls said. “This is a community-building exercise.”
