The crowd inside Latitude 32 in Pacific Beach grew excited as they walked outside to board a bus and head to opening day at the Del Mar race track this morning at 11:30 a.m. The owners of Latitude 32, located at 5019 Cass St., have been organizing a bus trip to opening day for 13 years. Willie Walker, one the bar’s owners, is attending opening day for the 40th year in a row. He has been organizing bus trips to the cherished event for 23 years. The last 13 trips have been with his patrons at Latitude 32. The tickets were $45 and sold out the second day they were on sale, said Alissa Barlow, another owner of Latitude 32. The ticket included the round-trip bus ride (with a bathroom on board), beer and wine on the bus, entrance to the track and a program. Patrons began calling in May hoping to find out information about when the tickets would be on sale. “It’s fun because everyone comes in dressed up with hats on,” said Barlow, who stayed behind to work at the bar this year. The group expects the drive to take anywhere from one to two hours and are happy to be patient and enjoy the experience that is opening day. Del Mar admission prices to the Stretch Run are $10 and to the Clubhouse are $20. The season runs through Sept. 8. Gates opened at 11:30 a.m. today and the first race is at 2 p.m. For more information visit www.dmtc.com, or call (858) 755-1141.
