
Several local scholastic soccer teams got their playoff runs off the right way with victories last week.
At La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School, the boys scored wins over Tri-City Christian (4-0) and Holtville (2-1) in Division IV action.
In the win over TCC, LJCD’s Darren Blake had the game-winning goal on an assist by Tim Sedwitz. Sedwitz also assisted on the second goal early in the second half as Colin Young scored. Young scored the third goal on an assist by Alex Fleischhacker.
Zach Folfenzen earned his third shutout of the season, while Alex Poyhonen and Blake played strong games on defense. Jake Eliasberg and Antoine Lopez-Palm did well coming off the bench.
In the quarterfinal win over Holtville, the Torreys missed numerous scoring opportunities in this well-played game, but came from behind to win on goals from Young and Blake.
LJCD got strong games from Adam Saven, Stephen Migdal, Chris Birks, Mason Boxer-Capitano, Poyhonen, Kees Thompson and Fleischhacker.
In other action, The Bishop’s School continued its outstanding one-loss season with a 4-1 victory over Canyon Crest. The Knights got a pair of goals from junior Will Peck to lead the way.
Elsewhere, La Jolla ended its campaign with a 2-0 loss to Cathedral Catholic in Division III play.
On the girls side, Bishop’s got goals from six different players en route to posting a 6-0 win over River Valley in Division IV action.
La Jolla saw its season end with a 1-0 loss to Valhalla in OT in Division III.
