La Jollans have noticed that La Jolla Shores’ Kellogg Park playground equipment is missing. Kellogg’s playground is popular, and according to the Internet, the equipment is excellent, so why did witnesses report a sudden disappearance of the tot-land?
“When I take my grandchildren there to play, it’s not there,” La Jolla resident Naomi Crosby said. “It’s been missing for a while.”
According to Crosby and other concerned residents, families arrived one day to find a bare patch of sand.
“The city removed a major portion of playground equipment; they deemed that it was unsafe,” La Jollan Mary Coakley said.
There is good news. Residents like Coakley, who has been at the forefront of Kellogg Park’s MAP Project, are trying to help the city find funding to replace the equipment ” hopefully in the next few months, before summertime.
“We hope we’ll have it replaced before the end of June,” she said. “There’s so much transitioning at the city with the budget cuts … we’re looking for funding.”
According to Coakley, there was no warning.
“All of a sudden, trucks were there to pick up the equipment,” she said.
But in the city’s defense, Coakley said, officials are working with her and others to quickly replace the play structures that were enjoyed by families that come to La Jolla Shores to spend time at the park and beach.
