San Diegans can recycle their outdated tax files for free during Tax File Recycling Week, which runs from April 8 through 17 at the Miramar Recycling Center, at 5165 Convoy St. The 13th annual event is sponsored by the City of San Diego and Allan Company, which will provide locked containers for residents to drop off old files, which are securely stored and shredded before recycle. Tax file recycling is available to San Diego residents only and is limited to the equivalent of one banker’s box per customer. A banker’s box is approximately 10 inches high, 15 inches wide and 25 inches deep. Businesses can find document shredding services online by searching Business Records Destruction and San Diego. Be sure to check with the IRS or a tax professional regarding how long tax documents are required to be kept on file.
