If any venue in San Diego can be said to have nine lives, it’s the Che Café, located on the UCSD campus. The fate of the influential all-ages music venue is currently in the school’s hands, with no certainty on how long shows will continue – but on Saturday, August 29, the Che will host a special concert that looks back on the venue’s musical history. On hand will be a large contingent of musicians among the regulars back in the early 1980s, including folk rockers The Sidewalk Scene (featuring former members of the Crawdaddys and Tell Tale Hearts), surf trio Avilo & The Dwells (featuring Manual Scan members) and Celtic punks The Downs Family, Kid Galahad and the Eternals: A Saints Tribute (featuring ex-Front and Dark Globe heavy hitters), punk rock legends Social Spit and The Joel Nowak Experience (featuring guys from the Slurps, DTs and Drip Tank). Hosted by Dave Rinck of the Original SD Wallflowers, this show promises to be a lot of fun while showing today’s generation the roots of both the indie music scene and the DIY movements. Back to the Che: Saturday, August 29 at the Che Cafe, 9500 Gilman Dr. 7 p.m. $10. All ages. checafe.blogspot.com.
