Caltrans will close northbound Interstate 805 from La Jolla Village Drive/Miramar Road to Interstate 5 tonight and Tuesday, Jan. 4 and 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The closures are needed to install vehicle detection sensor for ramp meters, which will help regulate the flow of traffic onto the I-805 in the Golden Triangle area.
Motorists on northbound I-805 will be detoured to westbound State Route 52 to northbound I-5 then onto northbound or southbound I-805. Travelers will be allowed to exit at Nobel Drive and Governor Drive.
The work is part of stage one of the I-805 North Express lanes project which involves construction of one carpool lane in each direction in the median of I-805 from just north of SR-52 to just north of Mira Mesa Boulevard. The project includes construction of a direct access ramp to and from southbound I-805 at Carroll Canyon Road, bridge widening and ramp modifications. Construction cost for stage one is about $86 million and is funded with state, federal and local sources.
