Emergency repairs along Torrey Pines State Beach will restore a section of pedestrian access ramp undermined by January storms. The work will require the closure of the southbound lane of North Torrey Pines Road between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, May 22 through Thursday, May 25. The closure will allow crews from the City of San Diego to safely use the heavy equipment necessary to complete the repairs before the summer beach moratorium begins on Memorial Day.
The road will remain accessible to fire, lifeguard and police vehicles, as well as bicyclists. Access to the beach will remain open from the Torrey Pines State Beach parking area and from the parking area at the southern end of the beach. All motor vehicles, including buses, will be required to follow detour routes on Del Mar Heights Road and Carmel Valley Road during work hours.
The City will be implementing an extensive traffic control plan including many warning and detour signs at the start of each work day. The City hopes to expedite the work and to reduce the hours of road closure though is limited by tide schedules impacting the work site.
