Two Point Loma High School wrestlers captured CIF championships in their weight classes at the Div. III finals late last month hosted by Del Norte High School.
This is the first time in school history two championships were won by team members, according to coach Brian Lamb.
Taking the first place medal at 154 pounds was Lamb’s son Brian, a senior. Lamb won a 10-9 decision over Mitchell Spencer of La Costa Canyon to take the title. Lamb finished seventh last season.
In the 287-pound heavyweight division, it was Pointer football lineman Arthur Daniels, a junior, who pinned Andrew McDonald, also of La Costa Canyon, for his medal. Daniels rebounded from his fourth-place finish last year.
In team standings at the event, PLHS finished in seventh place, with 97 points.
Other wrestlers who placed at the event included junior Tomas Ronge (third place at 115 pounds), senior Kele Frost (fifth at 128), sophomore Dylan Reisburg (seventh at 122) and junior Antonio Quintanella (seventh at 162).
Lamb, Phil Moore and Miles Doughty share coaching duties and have raised the sport’s profile at the school in recent years.
