LA JOLLA — For residents around Draper Street in La Jolla, Sunday’s unusual summer-like weather was cooled off by an unexpected flood. Peter Green managed to get some photos of the Dec. 12 incident — a 15-foot-high geyser of water coming from a hydrant on Draper Street — which he said lasted about an hour. He said he was working at home when he heard the sound of flowing water, but it seemed stronger than that of someone watering the garden. Then, he said “people from the street started calling ‘Come see this! You gotta see this; the whole street’s flooded!’” He said many people, mainly kids, stood around to watch it. “Nobody was worried,” Green said. “You could see that everybody was having fun watching this. I put on my shorts and flip-flops and enjoyed the water on this unusually warm December day.”
