The La Jolla Landmark Theater franchise, a four-venue facility that shows mostly fine-art and independent movie fare, will be displaced at The Shops at La Jolla Village in favor of a Nordstrom Rack discount outlet, the fifth in San Diego County. The Shops’ TGI Fridays and B.J.’s Pizza are also leaving. The changes are expected to take place in the fall of 2016, with construction and parking expansion to begin later this summer. The construction plan calls for three new buildings totaling about 45,000 square feet, replacing apartments and stores. The venues are located at 8801 Villa La Jolla Drive, nearly adjacent to UCSD. The Los Angeles-based Landmark also operates a franchise in Hillcrest and The Ken Cinema, San Diego’s only single-screen theater.
