There will be a changing of the guard at Point Loma Association’s annual town hall forum and election from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at the Portuguese Hall at 2818 Avenida de Portugal.
Outgoing PLA president Robert (Tripp) Jackson will be passing the gavel to Clark Anthony Burlingame (known professionally as Clark Anthony).
This year’s forum/election format is diverging from that of recent years. Instead of having the traditional three guest speakers, the town hall will have a panel discussion instead.
The itinerary:
• 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. – “Meet Your Neighbors.” Local organizations and businesses will be available to meet at their displays inside the hall.  
• 6:30 p.m. – new board members will be sworn in.
• 7 p.m. – Town hall meeting begins. A panel of representatives from local government and the police department, among others, will be there to answer community questions. Questions can be submitted in advance by going to the navigation bar at the top of PointLoma.org. A lifelong Point Loman and community activist, Robert Jackson’s late mother, Ann, who succumbed to cancer in 1990, was the Point Loma Association’s first female president. She was also an early chair of the Peninsula Community Planning Board, which makes land-use recommendations to the city.
Ann Tripp Jackson is perhaps best remembered for having been in the Dana Coalition, a grassroots group that campaigned successfully to prevent the Dana Junior High School site from being condemned and turned into condos. She also played an instrumental role in working to create a community plan to bring design standards to the Peninsula.
Incoming PLA president Anthony and his wife Kay have been Point Lomans since 1976.
During the 1970s and ’80s, Anthony hosted a midday radio program on KFMB-AM and was nightly weather anchor on KFMB Channel 8.
In the 1990s, Anthony was a news anchor at NBC 7.
For many years on ITV, the San Diego County Office of Education TV Channel Cable-16, Anthony has moderated “Academic League” and other programs featuring high school students. He also does voiceovers (commercials, narrations, “live” program announcing) through Clark Anthony Productions.
The Anthonys have two adult sons and three grandchildren.
PLA is an organization of residents and businesses that, since 1961, has been committed to improving the quality of life of Point Loma through beautification, education, charitable activities and civic collaboration.
Today, in addition to beautifying the Peninsula, PLA represents the community through direct involvement with agencies of federal, state and local governments, the Port District, the San Diego Unified School District, the Peninsula Community Planning Board, and others who directly affect Peninsulans quality of life.
PLA membership consists of residents and local businesses working together, donating time, effort and money to make the Peninsula a better place to live and work. Annual membership is $30. Donations at additional support levels are $1,000 platinum, $500 gold, $250 silver and $100 bronze.
