The La Jolla High baseball team won two more games last week as they make their push toward the postseason.
La Jolla scored a 3-0 win over Coronado behind a complete-game shutout from junior Patrick Christensen. The ace scattered five hits, fanned five and raised his record to 8-1 on the season.
Center fielder Robbie Beathard lined a double deep to left center in the third to plate the Vikings and break a scoreless tie. He then scored when Jimmy Filter drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field.
“This was a big win for us; it puts us right back into contention for another league title,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank commented. “We had great pitching, great defense, and timely hitting.”
La Jolla finished the week last Saturday by scoring a 15-5 win over neighborhood rival The Bishop’s School in a contest at San Diego State’s Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Wyatt Hoff tossed six innings, allowing two hits and striking out nine. Hoff added two hits and two RBIs on the offensive side of things. Beathard went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, with Austin Miller and Julian Velazco each adding a pair of hits.
“Getting to play under the lights at Tony Gwynn Stadium was a great experience for our guys,” Frank noted. “We are very appreciative of Bishop’s coach Al Gomez for giving us this opportunity. Our guys will remember this night for a long time.”
Nick Cox paced Bishop’s with two hits and two RBIs.
In action the previous week, La Jolla split a pair of games.
The Vikings avenged an earlier loss to Point Loma with a 9-0 victory. Christensen picked up his league-leading seventh win of the season, tossing a one-hitter through six innings.
Peter Sefton and Hoff provided the offensive spark, each driving in three runs.
In another contest, the Vikings dropped a 3-2 decision to Coronado. Sefton paced the La Jolla offense with a two-run homer.
Elsewhere, La Jolla Country Day School rolled past Canyon Crest Academy, 10-2 in recent action.
Kyle Reese (4-1) tossed a complete game and lowered his ERA to 2.00 on the season.
Reese also went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. John Hansbrough added a three-run homer.
In Coastal League play last Wednesday, LJCD scored a 9-5 win over rival Bishop’s (11-6, 3-2).
Raj Dhamrmapal had three hits, including a home run and three RBIs for Bishop’s, while teammate Chris Ludwig added a home run.
