Talk about dedication to job, long-term commitment and loyalty, and at least one man’s name comes to mind: Grant R. Boroff Sr., vice president of Culligan Water Conditioning of La Jolla, who was recently honored by Culligan International Company for 40 years of service.
“I worked for the Culligan Corporation in Northbrook, Illinois, until I joined my father-in-law, Mr. VonEhrenberg, who purchased an existing Culligan franchise on Turquoise Street, where we worked together until I purchased it from him,” Boroff said. “This business has been very good to me and my family, and we were able to raise our family in La Jolla and to provide a much-needed service to our community.”
The family affair continues and has grown to a third generation, as the business is now run by his son Grant Boroff Jr., who shares his work experiences with his enthusiastic although now-retired father.
Boroff was honored during a recent awards ceremony at the Culligan Dealers Association of North America Conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
“It is always a wonderful feeling to be acknowledged by your peers for all of your past services to your community, and recognition from the corporate offices is just like icing on the cake,” he said. “In reflection, you have to wonder where all the time has gone; it just seems like yesterday.”
Culligan International Company has been in business since 1936, after being launched by Emmette J. Culligan, who had a grand vision for his company and saw that the franchise system and soft-water service was the affordable way to bring quality water to the masses. Today the company is a global innovator of high-quality water treatment solutions for residential and business use.
“Culligan is the dominant name in water treatment worldwide, and should remain so,” Boroff said. “There is only so much water on this planet, and there will always be a need for good-quality water.
”
Boroff, who now lives in Rancho Bernardo with his wife Adrienne and has three children, Grant Jr., Stacy and Sondra Kennedy, remains active in the community. He sponsors neighborhood block parties, fairs and conventions and is a member of the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo.
Boroff began his career as president and general manager of Culligan Water Conditioning of La Jolla in 1967. Today he serves as vice president of the company and is proud of his achievements.
“As an employer, long-term employment by our employees is the ideal. If you are fair in your dealings with your employees, hopefully they will stay with you,” he said. “Longevity depends not only on the benefits we provide but the excitement the job brings to them.”
Headquartered in the Chicago area, Culligan features more than 700 dealers and international offices in 12 countries and continues to offer franchise opportunities for interested parties.
