Party to benefit Tijuana kids in need
Toys for Tijuana hosts its 20th annual Halloween party and casino night fund-raiser in the Corky McMillin Event Center, 2875 Dewey Rd., Friday, Oct. 27, from 7 p.m. to midnight. All proceeds from the event will benefit children in the rural outskirts of Tijuana by providing them with toys. The evening will include dancing, a silent auction, food, full bar and casino for guests 18 and older. Monster Bash
Loma Portal Elementary will open its doors to the community on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the annual “Monster Bash.” There will be food, prizes, carnival games, a cakewalk, costume contest and a spooky haunted house! Old Town Halloween fiesta
Old Town will celebrate Halloween, Samhain and Dia de los Muertos with a host of free activities on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parades, booths, crafts, a blessing of the animals, pet costume contest, Monarch butterfly release and live entertainment will bring a festive atmosphere to the park during the day. Celtic dancers will take center stage at the House of Ireland and the House of Hungary will explore the legend of Dracula. The Bat Rescue organization will also demystify the bat, a Halloween icon.
Beginning at 4 p.m., merchants will host trick-or-treaters, providing candy and treats to all those who wander the streets throughout the evening. At 6 p.m., the Halloween favorite, Tim Burton’s “Nightmare before Christmas,” will play at the Plaza del Pasado stage. The event is free and sponsored by the Boosters of Old Town. Discounts for the many heritage restaurants “” Casa de Reyes, The Jolly Boy or Cosmopolitan “” will be available at the event, as well as a special pumpkin flan. Swing into Halloween
The third annual Halloween Monster Swing Jam is ready to roll on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. The party will be hosted by 2togroove Dance, which offers year-round swing and salsa classes, among other styles, at the Portuguese Hall in Point Loma, 2818 Avenida de Portugal. Free beginning swing lessons will be available to the tunes of the Jump Jones Live Swing Band. A costume contest, carved pumpkin contest, prizes, performances, no host bar, photo corner and snacks will round out an evening of fun that costs $15 in advance, $20 at the door. 48th Annual Sunset View Halloween bash
Sunset View Elementary at 4365 Hill St. will once again host its annual Halloween Carnival “” a spooky good time for the whole family. Enter your little goblin in the costume contest, take a walk through the haunted house or creep up to the slime booth “” if you dare. Dive into Flood
Flood, a non-profit organization, will host a community Halloween party on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the NTC Promenade, 2875 Dewey Rd. The “High Rollin'” theme will feature games, a costume contest, free food and drinks, a chocolate fountain, hip hop performances, oversize boxing ring and prizes, including clothing, two one-hour massages, snow boards, a trip to Laughlin, Nev., and more. Senior Halloween events
Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church will host a Halloween Costume Party, complete with pumpkin decorating and Bingo on Tuesday, Oct. 31, starting at 11 a.m. Lunch begins at 11:45 a.m. with a scary assortment, including snake eyes (stuffed grapes), red eyes (stuffed tomatoes), beef in a pumpkin shell, fettuccini, salad, rolls, pumpkin October birthday cookies and ghoulish punch.
