One of San Diego’s most gifted talents, trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, closes the 2019 Fourth Friday Jazz series at the La Jolla Community Center on Oct. 25. Appearing at this show with acclaimed pianist Joshua White, Castellanos will perform a special “Tribute to the Trumpet Masters,” including selections from such icons as Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard and Clifford Brown.
A six-time San Diego Music Award winner, Castellanos is a national treasure, not only performing top-notch jazz in the Blue Note tradition but helping keep the genre vibrant through his Young Lions Jazz Conservatory. If you’re an aficionado of jazz in general or trumpet in particular, Castellanos’ inspired interplay with fellow musicians such as White and song arrangements, will thrill even the most jaded music fan.
