SAN DIEGO — The California Coastal Commission announced its 12th annual Amateur Photography Competition to pay tribute to California’s coast and ocean. Entrants may submit photos of the scenic coast, ways people use the coast or coastal wildlife. Entrants can also submit photos of any of these subjects in a separate category for humorous pictures. Plants and animals photographed should be native species in their natural setting. Photographs must be taken from a public place and should be in color. To avoid disturbance, photos of marine mammals must be taken from 50 yards away or more. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place as well as a special award for the best humorous photo. All entries must be postmarked by August 31. Interested amateur photographers should obtain an entry form and read the full contest guidelines, which are available at www.coastforyou.org.
