Mission Bay High School
The Swim 24Challenge took place Aug. 26-27 at UC San Diego’s Canyon View Pool. More than $100,000 was raised during this 24-hour event, where team members swam in shifts for 24 hours to raise money benefiting the Drowning Prevention Foundation of San Diego, aka the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation’s Waterproofing America Initiative. Daly was on one of the two teams representing the Mission Bay High School Aquatics Program, which raised more than $6,000 for drowning prevention. Pacific Beach Middle The USAF Clarinet Quartet will be performing in the Pacific Beach Middle School Auditorium 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14. The Clarinet Quartet is part of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West from Travis Air Force Base. Composed of four clarinetists and one percussionist, the group performs at a variety of events throughout the west coast such as military ceremonies, educational programs, and community concerts. This concert is free and open to the public.   PB Palooza! Join friends and families to celebrate local music and support the PBMS Music Association noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the San Diego Mission Bay Boat and Ski Club. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket and listen to the sounds of The Sea Monks, The PinchFlats, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Frostie, Big Daddy Blues, and the Bartones. There will be food to purchase from Leilani’s food truck. Tickets are available at the event, which cost $10 for adults, $5 for kids. All proceeds go to support the music program at PBMS. Questions or inquiries for sponsoring the event can be directed to [email protected]. PBMS welcomes Kyle Kupper as the school’s new vice principal. Born in San Diego and raised in Northern California, Kupper earned his degree at San Francisco State University. He lived and taught overseas at an American International School in Cartagena, Colombia, and is fluent in Spanish. 
For 13 years, Kupper worked an English teacher and San Diego Area Writing Project Fellow at Chula Vista Middle School and for the last three years as a design facilitator (assistant principal) at Design39 in 4 S Ranch. “I pride myself on being a design thinker, a novice innovator, and a curator of creative confidence. My passion is to inspire students, staff and communities into finding new ways of ‘doing’.  I thoroughly enjoy this challenge of being a facilitator of change,” Kupper said.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved at PBMS for the opportunity to join your community. I am very excited to join a school with such a variety of programs and such a distinguished history. As a father of a 6 year old, Thomas, and an almost 2 year old, Catalina, I can empathize with where our families are in this wonderful journey of parenthood.

I believe students should be at the center of everything we do because if we accomplish that task, our students will be prepared for anything that comes their way in both school and in life.   PB Elementary Enjoy yogurt for PBE’s first Dine Out fundraiser, Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Yogurt on the Rocks. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to PBE. Back to School Night is 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21. Kate Sessions Kate Sessions Elementary welcomes new staff members for the 2017-2018 school year: Adam Carlin (principal), Julia Moore (fifth grade), Tracy Eddy (fourth grade), Jennifer Buck and Leticia Razo-Villanueva (special education) and Glenn Herman (night custodian).   The annual Day at the Bay is Sunday, Sept. 17. It is a gigantic play date where kids can splash around in the bay, enjoy pizza and meet new friends. Meet at the bay/grassy area adjacent to the Mission Bay Sportcenter on Santa Clara Point, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Back to School Night is Thursday, Sept. 14. Food is available fro purchase from 5 to 6 p.m., and classrooms will be open from 6 to 7 p.m. Use this opportunity to meet Sessions’ families, teachers, and view classrooms. Sessions’ first PTO meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 21 (childcare provided). Mission Bay Cluster The third annual “Future Bucs” night is on Friday, Sept. 15, as the Mission Bay varsity football team plays Rancho Buena Vista at 6 p.m. at MBHS. This community-wide event gathers elementary and middle-schoolers and their families from the Mission Bay Cluster of schools to cheer on their high school team.
