Mission Bay High
– The Mission Bay High annual Talent Show, hosted by the Class of 2019, will take place 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, in the auditorium. With celebrity judges, delicious refreshments, and a few surprises in store, there will be a night of fantastic singers, dancers, bands, and unique acts showcasing the amazing talent of MBHS students. Tickets are $5 at the door.
– MBHS Music Japan Fundraiser, will take place 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20 at Pacific Beach Women’s Club. Enjoy an exciting night of music, food, and dancing as Sue Palmer, queen of boogie woogie, joins the Mission Bay Preservationists. Bring your appetite as chef Carlos will be cooking up his famous paella. All ages are welcome. All funds raised help the Preservationists travel to Japan in April.
Pacific Beach Middle
– Do you like pancakes? Join friends and neighbors at PBMS for “Unlimited Pancakes for a Cause” on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. A fundraiser for PBMS Music Association, enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausages, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice for a minimum $5 donation to help purchase new equipment for the PBMS music department.
– Community Crop Swap. Do you have excess fruits and veggies from your garden? Come swap your crop or donate your excess on Saturday, March 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the top of Kate Sessions Park. – New student registration begins at Pacific Beach Elementary on April 1, Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
– Pacific Beach Elementary’s online auction is from March 11-19, and donations are needed. Gift certificates from local businesses or donations of services like massages, beauty treatments, or vacation rentals are welcome. One of PBE’s biggest fundraisers, proceeds directly benefit PBE, and it’s a great way to promote your business. If you’d like to donate to the auction, email [email protected]. – In recognition of the vital role that creative arts play in students’ academic achievement, Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary has rolled out a new supplemental art curriculum in the 2018-19 school year. Barnard’s PTA purchased licensing and materials for Arts Attack, a San Diego-based company that provides visual art curricula for elementary schools, to teach students the elements and principles of art and to introduce them over the next five years to works from famous artists, other cultures, and historical periods.
One of the second grade classrooms completed a dragon-themed lesson where students studied pictures of dragons from China and medieval England to interpret their story and meaning. Twins Saylor and Journey M. participated in the dragon lesson and interpreted the subject matter in unique ways. FOPBSS – Held at Mission Bay’s De Anza Cove on March 24, all proceeds from the Schoolyard Dash 5K went to support PB schools. Top honors for each division went to: Tejas Gluth – Elementary, Autumn Hayes – Elementary, Jack O’Toole – Middle, Lauren Pelot – Middle, TK Berhe – High School, Dianna Lopresti – High School, Ernest Remillard – Adult, and Katie Matchelt – Adult.
