Pacific Beach Middle – Eighth-graders had a great time celebrating their promotion at “Kick Back Day,” where they signed yearbooks, sat under decorated themed ez-ups, and played games while eating pizza and cookies. Each student promoting received a donated gift from businesses around Pacific Beach, whose generosity helped make this day extra special for these hard-working students. PBMS thanks community sponsors that donated: Mamma Mias, The Fish Shop, Jamba Juice, Belmont Park, Yogurt on the Rocks, California Sock Company, Konitos, Kearny Mesa Bowl, Starbucks (in Vons parking lot), Mr. Frostie, Ryder, South Coast Surf, Wahines, Sand Box, Hoboken, Taco Surf, Filippis, Play it Again Sports, Broken Yolk, Pernicanos, Cheba Hut, Board and Brew, Biggies Burger’s, and Jack in the Box. – PB Middle Students Ride the Wave of Excellence. PB Middle students logged more than 16,000 hours of service and action for 2018-2019 school year and are earning 55 Presidential Awards for Service. The Class of 2023 contributed more than 9,000 hours of service and action and designed and completed more than 60 IB Community (service) Projects. Ninety-seven students will receive the Pacific Beach Middle “Medal of Distinction” at promotion for their outstanding reflection and presentations to community members and 21 eighth graders will receive a cord to wear at promotion for earning the SDUSD Pathways to Biliteracy Awards for 2018-2019. Additional awards for 2018-2019 include Dr. Shirley Weber Service Award, Music in the Parks Award of Excellence, and the Confucius Institute China Bridge Competition – The PBMS makeover has begun with campus transformation including construction of a new two-story classroom hall that will hold 26 classrooms, state-of-the-art technology, and a designated ideation station for students. The existing cafeteria and library/media center will be renovated and air-conditioning will be installed in the auditorium, classrooms, and in the existing science hall. School administration offices will be relocated to create an easily identifiable and secure single point of entry. Funded by voter-approved Propositions S and Z, construction is estimated to be completed in winter 2021.
