Noteworthy news, events and other happenings at Pacific Beach-area schools: • Saturday, Oct. 1, 8a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mission Bay High School girls’ volleyball varsity team will host the annual “Bucs Bash” in the gym at Mission Bay High. The  tournament hosts eight teams throughout San Diego and Imperial counties. The public is welcome to attend and support the Lady Bucs in their attempt at another “Bucs Bash” Championship. GO BUCS! • The annual Pacific Beachfest is Saturday, Oct. 1. Stop by and enjoy the art, music and culture of Pacific Beach. Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools (FOPBSS) will host its famous “Ducky Derby, Duck for Bucks” booth. Other local schools will have interactive booths with information about all the opportunities and great programs at each school site. The Mission Bay High Dixieland Jazz Band will be performing on the community stage, as well as the local MBHS acoustic duo Lauren and Dayna. PB schools’ very own “Big Daddy Blues” will also be back on stage this year. Stop by a booth, listen to some music, and support your local schools at the Pacific Beachfest. • On Monday, Oct. 3 from 8 to 10 a.m., Pacific Beach Middle School will host a school tour beginning in the media center/library. If you want to learn more about the International Baccalaureate Program at PBMS and all the exciting opportunities for your incoming middle schooler, join the school tour, “a day in the life” of a PBMS student. You will meet administrators, learn about IB, meet teachers and see students in action in class. Your student is also welcome to attend this informative tour. • Thursday, Oct. 13, Mossy Ford will team with Mission Bay High School for a very unique fundraiser. Anyone 18 years or older can come to Mission Bay High School between 1:30 and 7 p.m. and take a short test drive in a new Ford vehicle around a marked area in the parking lot. Mossy Ford will donate $20 for each test drive. Extended test drives will be available if desired but there is no obligation to purchase a car. The entire community is welcome to attend and participants must have a valid driver’s license and be 18 years or older. • Continuing through Oct 3: Seahawk Pride Contribution Drive for Kate Sessions Elementary. Contact the school for more information at (858) 273-3111. • Kate Sessions Elementary Family Night is Oct. 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Corvette Diner. A percentage of sales comes back to the Friends of Kate Sessions to help continue the great programs at the elementary school. • Missoula Theater is back at Pacific Beach Elementary with an energetic production of “The Jungle Book.” Missoula week is Oct. 10–15 with two performances on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. Tickets available in the school office. Call (858) 488-8316 for more information.
