DOWNTOWN — A man tried to gain entry to a locked, condo complex at 550 Front St. at approximately 2 a.m. on Aug. 18. The condo’s surveillance equipment captured a picture of him with a cutting device in his right hand. When he was unable to gain access to the locked building he walked to 500 Union St., where he used the cutting device to break into a BMW soft-top convertible by cutting into its back window. At that point a security guard saw the suspect and scared him away. Two other similar incidents have occurred in the area recently, according to a statement from the San Diego County Crime Stoppers. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic adult male with a thin to medium build. He was wearing eyeglasses, a polo shirt and pants. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police Department’s Central Division at (619) 744-9500 or Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (800) 580-8477. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anonymous e-mails and text messages can be sent via www.sdcrimestoppers.com.
