On Tuesday, Nov. 6, registered voters will cast their ballot in the midterm elections and specifically in San Diego’s 4th District race, voters will select their new County Board of Supervisors representative. The East Village Association (EVA) and the East Village Residents Group (EVRG) invite you to the Oct. 11 Downtown County Supervisor, District 4 Candidate Forum between candidate Bonnie Dumanis (bonnieforsupervisor.com) and candidate Nathan Fletcher (nathanfletcher.com), from 5–6 p.m. at the San Diego Central Library’s Neil Morgan Auditorium (330 Park Blvd., San Diego, CA 92101), moderated by Lisa Halverstadt, Voice of San Diego reporter. This event is free and open to the public. By way of background of the two mentioned contenders, the winning candidate will succeed incumbent Republican Supervisor Ron Roberts, who has held the seat since 1994 and is now termed-out due to a 2010 voter-approved term limit rule.
But how does this highly anticipated County Board of Supervisors race affect you as a voter?
Serving as the local government for all unincorporated areas, the San Diego County government also provides election and voter registration, law enforcement, jails, vital records, property taxes, tax collection, and public health and social services. Governed by an elected five-member Board of Supervisors, the county is additionally managed by several other elected offices and officers including the District Attorney, Sheriff, Assessor/Recorder/Country Clerk, Treasurer/Tax Collector and other country departments overseen by the Chief Administrative Officer. With nearly a $6 billion annual budget, the county is guided by the strategic initiatives of: healthy families, safe communities, sustainable environment, and operational excellence. You may be wondering: How do I know if I’m a District 4 voter?
Considered to be the most ethnically diverse district in San Diego County, District 4 serves approximately 630,000 residents.
