La Jolla storeowner Donna Marsh will begin selling reduced-price inventory today, Feb. 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 7712 Fay Ave. After about one year inside La Jolla’s village, the retail seller announced Monday that she will close the La Jolla Donna Marsh store. Marsh brought her Palm Desert boutique concept, Edith Morre’, to La Jolla’s village, moving into the Fay Avenue building she purchased shortly before December 2007. Calling the shop simply Donna Marsh, Marsh relied on her decades of retail experience, partnering with her husband Mark Steinback to create a mini-department store. The couple filled 5,500 square feet of retail space with designer garments, from denim to cocktail couture, jewelry, handbags and accessories. Marsh said her goal was to help her customers. But economic times worsened and Marsh couldn’t keep up with her sales goals, she said in a written statement. “We are grateful for the opportunity to establish ourselves in the La Jolla community,” Marsh wrote. “However, due to unforeseen circumstances, our store did not reach the success that we have previously experienced and we are saddened to announce our closing.” Marsh had previously closed her Palm Desert store, according to spokeswoman Katherine Randall. And because Marsh and her husband own the building, the couple plans to sell or lease it, Randall said. “They are going to stay in San Diego and explore their options in the future for other business [avenues],” Randall said. Marsh owns her store’s inventory, so consumers could get great deals on hot designer names and denim, Randall said. “There’s going to be some great deals. She carries some great brands and great designers,” Randall said. “There’s cocktail gowns and jeans — so many wonderful jeans. But everything else — all her accessories and jewelry and sportswear — will [also] be on sale.” Marsh announced that shoppers will save at least half off more than 120 fashion labels, including her denim. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the consumer,” Randall said. Donna Marsh is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.donnamarshlajolla.com or call (858) 454-3003.
