Dogs dress to the nines for San Diego Humane Society’s 33rd annual Fur Ball Gala

Someone let the dogs out at the 33rd annual Fur Ball Gala on Oct. 5, which was presented by the San Diego Humane Society (SDHS). This dog-friendly fundraiser was held at the SDHS with more than 600 attendees and 300 furry companions arriving on the red carpet. The pooches were dressed to the nines for this fun event. Many of the dogs wore tuxedos or glamorous dresses. Other furry critters opted for Hawaiian shirts, designer collars, and stylish garlands. The evening began with a delightful cocktail hour for all to mix and mingle with their canine friends. Everyone had fun having all-too-cute photos taken with their dogs to take home as a souvenir.

When it was time to adjourn to the tables, everyone laid their dogs on blankets next to their chairs as they dined. Special treats were provided for the canine friends. Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille prepared a special dinner featuring Beyond Meat. This year, they opted to have a vegetarian meal for everyone. It was truly a culinary delight.

President Gary Weitzman greeted the crowd. The honoree of the 33rd annual Fur Ball was Senate President Pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins for her dedication and loyalty to the SDHS. Also in the crowd was California state Assembly member Todd Gloria (78th District). Sheena Parveen, a meteorologist for NBC 7 San Diego, was the mistress of ceremonies. As the guests dined, they had an incredible live auction with one giveaway item offering a night in Las Vegas, two fountain-view rooms at the Bellagio with a private jet and limo for four. The evening finished with dancing by Haute Chile Productions. They played Latin music and it was a perfect touch to an amazing evening.

Proceeds from the evening will help the humane society, which has been in San Diego County since 1880. It offers a variety of programs such as providing medical care, prevention of animal cruelty and neglect, and education for the community. SDHS cared for nearly 46,000 homeless pets and wildlife this past year and keep healthy and treatable animals from being euthanized. It has campuses in Escondido, Oceanside and San Diego.
