The latest update from the District 7 office of Councilman Raul Campillo….
District office hours
Office hours are back. Office hours are opportunities for D7 residents to meet directly with me and ask questions or share your concerns. They will take place the fourth Thursday of each month from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., taking places at different venues across the district. If you would like to schedule time to meet with me, email: [email protected].
Allied Gardens
Councilmember Campillo proclaimed March 19, Allied Gardens Little League Day
As a former little leaguer myself who was known to hit a few dingers from time to time it gave me great pleasure to proclaim March 19, Allied Gardens Little League Day. Little League is a formative and wonderful experience in the lives of thousands of kids nationwide, myself and a number of my staff included. It is fantastic that kids in D7 have access to this, and the work of the volunteers with AGLL, largely made up of the parents of the players, keeps the organization functioning and provides this safe, fun, and educational outlet for D7 families.
Del Cerro
Storm pipe repair
I’m pleased to let the community know that the City’s Stormwater Department has prioritized emergency repairs to the stormwater infrastructure located on St. Therese Way. These repairs are in progress and will take approximately 60 days to be completed. The improvements consist of removing 446 feet of the existing 18- and 21-inch corrugated metal pipe which will be replaced with 467 feet of 18- and 24-inch reinforced concrete pipe along St. Therese Way.
This project will help alleviate the buildup of debris and excess water that can be subsequently deposited into the canyon below, creating an environmental hazard. We greatly appreciate the community’s support and patience during construction.
San Carlos
San Carlos Library update
Stantec completed well destruction activities at the San Carlos Library site in February and submitted the final report to the Regional Water Quality Control Board on March 28. We are awaiting a “No Further Action” letter and once received, the City can begin the process of purchasing the land.
Once the City purchases the land, we can proceed with design and construction. SDG&E will need to disconnect the temporary service that supported well destruction, and Stantec will need to restore the surface in the upcoming months.
Internally, the City’s Director of the Engineering & Capital Projects Department (ECP) has directed staff to continue work on the design bridging document, and the Department of Real Estate and Airport Management is working to bring forward the purchase agreement as soon as possible to meet the deadline of 120 days after receiving the letter.
We have received updated estimates from ECP, Phase 1, which will be $1.5 million to complete design needs. Finally, I will continue to advocate for funding for the library in the upcoming budget process and ensure City dollars are allocated and work with the members of the San Diego Delegation at the State Assembly/State Senate for additional funding of the project via state funds. The total needed for full construction of the library is $22.5 million.
