Disney on Ice skates into San Diego with its newest production, “Disneyland Adventure,” featuring a new twist to its story that allows families to revisit their favorite Disney memories from “The Incredibles.”
The show premieres Wednesday, Jan. 31, and runs until Sunday, Feb. 4, at the ipayOne Center, 3500 Sports Arena Blvd.
Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack “” characters from the movie “” spend a day in Magic Kingdom enjoying the sights and sounds of the theme park as a seemingly normal family. But their superpowers cannot be suppressed as they keep popping up at inopportune moments, creating plenty of opportunities for comical misadventures. The plot takes a turn, however, when a robot duplicate of the evil Syndrome ruins the fun, forcing the Incredibles to save the day.
The American family inspired Disney on Ice creators and Disney Theatrical Group to focus the show’s theme on the Incredibles.
“The Incredible Family is such a typical American family. What are they going to do after they worked hard? They are going to on vacation, just like millions of families, and they come to Disneyland. It was a great opportunity to kind of put the characters in a new light and further their story,” said Andy Perez of public relations firm West Coast, part of Feld Entertainment, which produces Disney on Ice.
Cast and crew worked with limited time to put together the production in about six to eight weeks.
“There’s a huge amount of training that goes into it and learning how to accurately portray what a viewer would see when they are watching a movie or experiencing going to the park,” Perez said. “These are most loved characters ever in history. You got to make sure you’re doing it right.”
After all the hard work, Perez said, the entertainers really enjoy interacting with a live audience. “They live for making that big smile on the face of every child and parent,” he said. “When you step one into one of our shows, you can hear everyone laughing and clapping and just having a great time.”
“Disneyland Adventure” will run at 7:30 p.m. each night, with 11 a.m. performances Friday through Sunday. Additionally, a Spanish performance will take place at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4.
Ticket prices start at $15.50 and go up to $51.50 and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at (619) 220-TIXS.
