Raise your forks to help raise money for local schools at the third annual Taste of North PB Restaurant Walk Wednesday, Feb. 28, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.
The community culinary event, sponsored by Friends of Pacific Beach Elementary and Friends of Pacific Beach Secondary Schools (FOPBSS), raises funds to enrich local schools’ arts and education programs.
“We have been trying to bring a sense of community back to Pacific Beach, and the Taste of North PB accomplishes that,” said Kerry Upp, vice president of FOPBSS.
Last year’s nearly sold-out restaurant walk raised more than $8,400 that was split evenly between the parent teacher Organizations of PB Elementary, Pacific Beach Middle School and Mission Bay High School, according to Laura Daly, president of Friends of Pacific Beach Elementary parent-teacher organization. The money went to support programs like Art Attack and Missoula Children’s Theater.
“With school budgets shrinking again this year, this fund-raiser is essential for us,” Upp said.
With the cost of a ticket, guests can take the self-guided restaurant tour and sample an assortment of dishes at each of the participating restaurants, which line Cass and Turquoise streets. Participating restaurants will be marked with balloon bouquets donated by G-Whiz.
According to event organizers, The Fishery will feature its signature chowder, Chateau Orleans will serve its jambalaya and Chocolate Haus is offering samples of its dessert chocolates.
In addition, both Pernicano’s and Turquoise Coffee will also showcase live music during the event.
New this year to the restaurant walk will be the Mission Bay High School Jazz Band performing for guests.
This year’s participating restaurants include:
“¢ Chocolate Haus,
947 Turquoise St.
“¢ Chateau Orleans,
926 Turquoise St.
“¢ The Fishery,
5040 Cass St.
“¢ The French Gourmet,
960 Turquoise St.
“¢ Froggy’s Bar & Grill,
954 Turquoise St.
“¢ Java Jones,
4978 Cass St.
“¢ Leilani’s Café,
5109 Cass St.
“¢ Pernicano’s,
711 Turquoise St.
“¢ Rafaela’s Italian Restaurant,
5119 Cass St.
“¢ San Diego Coffee Tea & Spice,
5026 Cass St.
“¢ The Service Deli at Albertsons,
730 Turquoise St.
“¢ Turquoise Coffee,
841 Turquoise St.
“¢ Turquoise Café,
873 Turquoise St.
The event benefits both the schools and the restaurants that get to showcase their fare for new customers that patronize them for the first time on the restaurant walk.
Tickets are $15 adults and $7 for children 6-10. Children 5 and under are free. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Tickets can be pre-purchased at the offices of Pacific Beach Elementary, Pacific Beach Middle School, Mission Bay High School, Java Jones, Leilani’s Café, G-Whiz, Pernicano’s and San Diego National Bank. The night of the event, any remaining tickets will be available only at Leilani’s Café and Pernicano’s.
