Get adventurous! Four envelope-shredding, forward-thinking musicians are performing as Quartet M at the Athenaeum on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m.
All well-known players and composers on the New Music end of the jazz spectrum, the four trailblazers are pianist Myra Melford, bassist (and UCSD professor of music) Mark Dresser, multi-instrumentalist Marty Ehrlich (clarinets, saxes and flutes) and drummer Matt Wilson.
In addition to celebrating this new configuration, the quartet is promoting two new albums, the Ehrlich-Melford duo’s “Spark!” and “Big Picture” by Trio M (Melford, Dresser and Wilson).
This event launches the Athenaeum’s annual winter jazz series in the library’s intimate Music Room.
