Del Mar Mud Run sets up for 8th year of dirty dashing

The highly-anticipated, 8th annual Del Mar Mud Run will once again return to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 13. This year’s event will include 15 obstacles, see approximately 20 vendor booths, and has attracted the sponsorship of several like-minded companies to add to the experience. Started by San Diego’s VAVI Sport and Social Club at Del Mar Fairgrounds in 2010, the race quickly became a must-do event for San Diegans during the Spring and Summer months. “We’re expecting more than 5,000 entrants this year,” said VAVI marketing manager, Jenna Long. “While this event is on par with what we have done in the past, we will have a lot of local gyms that will have an on-site presence. Also, we’re excited that Miller Lite has come on board as a sponsor, providing a complimentary beer, which is included in the entry fee.”
Since they have been on sale for quite some time, tickets to the event currently cost $63. They will increase to $73 on the day of the race.
” ‘Wave 1’ (tickets) are close to selling out,” said Long. ” ‘Wave 1’ of the race will occur from 8 a.m. to Noon, but we do foresee open space in the ‘Wave 2’ afternoon event. ‘Wave 2’ races will occur from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.” Along with the complimentary Miller Lite, race entrants’ packets will include a commemorative Del Mar Mud Run t-shirt, as well as race bibs and pins. And what’s better than having the ability to cake oneself in mud as an adult? Large-scale outdoor showers?
Dr. Bronner’s Organic Soaps will be hosting the official afterparty of the mud run, replete with soap showers to rinse away the grunginess. So grab some of your more adventurous pals, dig out those old running clothes that need to be retired, and make your way to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. What: 8th annual Del Mar Mud Run
Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd.
When: Saturday, May 13. Wave 1, from 8 a.m. to Noon; Wave 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
