Lifeguards on Feb. 7 recovered a badly decomposed body found in the waters off the coast of Sunset Cliffs, San Diego Fire-Rescue officials confirmed to a local television outlet. The report first came in from a civilian helicopter flying in the area. Police dispatched their own helicopter to find the body but could not locate it at first. Around 12:15 p.m., a boat worked to retrieve the body, seen a third of a mile offshore near Ocean Beach. The body appears to be that of a man in his late 30s. The body was found with no clothes on. Lifeguards did not know if there was a missing person named among police records. It appears the body was in the ocean for about a week. No further information was immediately available. — NBC 7
