All San Diego Public Libraries will be closed on December 26, in observance of Christmas. 

December Events

Dates: Thursday, December 1, 8, 22 and 29, 2022
Time: 10:30 a.m.
Title: Toddler and Preschool Storytime
Description: Recommended for ages 2-5, this storytime program includes books, songs, games, and early literacy fun! Please note: this program will be held outdoors.
Audience: Children

Dates: Monday, December 5, 2022
Time: 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Title: Community Listening Session:  Library Master Plan

Description:  Your voice, your library! San Diego Public Library wants to hear what you want for the future of Mission Valley Library. What do you love? What would you change? What would you add?  This is your chance to share your input with Library Director Misty Jones, Library Foundation SD and Branch Manager Karen Reilly in person and will focus on Mission Valley’s facilities. Together with Library Foundation SD, we are developing a new master plan to provide a long-range vision for library buildings, technology and program investments. We need your input and that of the community to make this a success!
Audience: All members of the community

Date:  Tuesday, December 6, 2022
Time:  1:00 p.m.
Title:  Oasis Presents:  The True History of Russia and Ukraine
What is the reason for the territorial disputes between Russia and Ukraine? Who has the most convincing historical claim to eastern Ukraine and the Crimean peninsula? Why? What is the primary reason President Putin wanted Crimea so badly? Could similar territorial disputes arise elsewhere in the former Soviet Union? Have they already? (Spoiler alert – yes, they have.) The speaker will be Dr. Philip Pryde, Professor Emeritus at SDSU, who is a specialist on the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. He has written three books about the Soviet Union and has spent time in 13 of the 15 former Soviet republics.  This event is free and open to the public, and there is no need to pre-register.

Audience:  Recommended for adults.

Date:  Tuesdays, December 6, 13, 20 and 27, 2022
Time:  4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Title:  Chess Club
Have you always wanted to learn how to play chess or improve your skills? If you have never played before, or are just looking for someone to practice with, join us for some friendly competition!  All supplies are provided.

Audience:  Recommended for elementary school-aged children through adults.

 

Date:  Wednesday, December 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2022
Time:  10:30 a.m.
Title:  Dance Pants Party
Recommended for toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-school age kids, this simple dance program will feature “The Wheels on the Bus,” “Baby Shark,” and more. Families, it’s time to get your groove on!  Please note: this program will be held outdoors.

Audience:  Recommended for ages 1+.

Dates: Saturday, December 10, 2022
Times: 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Title: 
Ho, Ho, Holiday Party with Santa!
Description: Whether you’re naughty or nice, we hope you’ll join us for Christmas crafts, snacks, and a visit from the big jolly man himself!
Audience: Recommended for ages 3-9.

Date:  Monday, December 12, 2022
Time:  4:00 p.m.
Title:  Mission Valley Kids Book and Craft Club
Join us the second Monday of every month for an entertaining book club where we’ll discuss a great kids book, do a related craft, and enjoy snacks. The book for December is Rump by Liesl Shertle, and free copies are available at the library for participating kids while supplies last.  Contact the library at 858-573-5007 for more information. 
Audience: This program is recommended for readers ages 8-11.

Time: 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Title: Make Your Own Gingerbread House

Description:  Design your own gingerbread house and take home your masterpiece! We’ll give you all the supplies you need. Registration is required below for each child. Registration is required for this is program.  You can register at sandiego.librarymarket.com.
Audience: 
Recommended for ages 3+.
