An investigation into a La Jolla pet hospital came to a head the week of Oct. 26, when the Drug Enforcement Agency served a search warrant to the facility. Agency officials say its Office of Diversion Control headed the investigation into the Village Veterinary Hospital, at 7527 Draper Ave. The officials would not detail what they were looking for or what – if anything – they found. The diversion control program is designed to prevent pharmaceutical drugs from being used or distributed illegally. The agency said that if wrongdoing is found, the hospital’s license could be suspended. According to officials, the agency investigates both businesses and doctors registered with the agency who distribute, prescribe and dispense controlled pharmaceuticals. Agency officials would not say if the hospital or one individual is under investigation. Customer Cathy Fairchild said it is hard to believe there is an investigation into Village Veterinary, which she has been going to since the 1980s. “We only live 10 minutes away,” she said. “There are other vets around, but when you get used to going to the same vet and you have had such great service, it would just be a loss.” A local television station reached out the pet hospital’s owner for comment.
