David Wells donates to military veterans' cause

Former Major League Baseball and Point Loma High star David Wells is passionate about helping veterans of the U.S. military who are in need of medical and/or mental health assistance and cannot afford to pay for these critical and much-needed treatments.
To assist those in need, Wells, through his Perfect 33 Foundation, donated $100,000 earlier this week to the PeakMD Institute, a nonprofit  corporation founded in 2017 to provide funding and treatment for these veterans.
Wells presented his gift during a recent ceremony at the institute located at 16918 Dove Canyon Road, Suite 102.
Dr. Kevin Murphy uses personalized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation to heal veterans suffering from depression, post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury.
Wells grew up in Ocean Beach and is an alumni of Point Loma High School. For many years, in support of his alma mater, he has funded the school’s baseball team and volunteered as a varsity pitching coach. Five years ago, Wells was named head varsity coach of the team, which plays at a facility located at Dana Middle School that bears his name.
Ever the philanthropist, Wells has also funded several other deserving programs at PLHS and is a mentor to many young baseball players within the community. Wells chose to establish his own non-profit organization to help grow his impact with youth and the military.
Established by Wells in 2015, Perfect 33 Foundation diligently endeavors to raise funds in support of youth sports, military families and more. The efforts of his foundation are not limited as it is Wells’ vision to give where help is needed. The annual David Wells Golf Tournament is one of the largest fundraisers.
This year the foundation will host events both here in San Diego and New York. For more information, visit perfect33foundation.org.
