On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Mayor Todd Gloria joined Mission Bay RV Resort officials and supportive Mission Bay campers to celebrate the long-awaited clean-up of De Anza Cove at 2727 De Anza Road.
Following three years of Coastal Commission negotiations, permits were secured last July for the removal of dilapidated homes that have long blighted the De Anza Cove peninsula in Mission Bay Park.
The clean-up effort, approved by City Council in 2019, will also result in an improved coastal bike path and 147 family-friendly campsites at De Anza’s Mission Bay RV Resort to expand much-in-demand coastal recreation access in the near term as the City finalizes long-term plans for northeast Mission Bay.
Gloria, and Jacob Gelfand, of Mission Bay RV Resort and Campland on the Bay, discussed the benefits the cleanup will bring to the community and the environment. Guests also had a chance to observe firsthand how one of the remaining homes was being demolished and removed.
Following the cleanup project’s completion in the coming months, San Diegans will again be able to fully enjoy the coastal views, repaired bike path, and improved, waterfront camping opportunities that De Anza has to offer.
