Christmas on Crystal Pier' christens season of hope

Discover Pacific Beach ushered in the holiday season Dec. 1 with its fourth annual “Christmas on Crystal Pier” event. The community event was only the beginning of many. The PB Holiday Parade arrives Dec. 15, along with a community/business mixer on Dec. 12 and a “Boards, Bikes and Brews” holiday fundraiser on Dec. 8. Boards, Bikes and Brews” Three of Pacific Beach’s favorite activities will converge in the beachfront community for the inaugural “Bikes, Boards and Brews” holiday fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the renowned Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, located at 3999 Mission Blvd. The event will kick off with a community ride around Mission Bay at 11 a.m., starting from the boardwalk at Catamaran Pier. Then, from noon to 4 p.m., the festivities will continue with a vintage beach-themed party that will include beer tasting from more than a dozen local brewers, food pairings by 10 of Pacific Beach’s best restaurants, live music by locals Jackson Price and The Yes Team, and coastal-inspired masterpieces by artist Katy Helen Art and photographers Matt Aden and Rachel McFarlin. Surf Monkey, Pacific Coast Bicycle, Rusty Spokes and Pacific Beach Cruisers will showcase unique bikes at the event alongside a few vintage surfboards from Taco Surf to highlight the best of PB culture — past and present — and reminisce the endless summer days of Tourmaline Beach. Tickets to the fundraiser, which includes 10 beer tastings, food pairings, live music and art, are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. All funds raised from the event will help fund Discover PB’s programs, including Shop Local, holiday event and other programs to help enhance Pacific Beach. Presale tickets are available at www.pbbeerfest.com

Community mixer to mark PB’s 125th anniversary on Dec. 12 In celebration of Pacific Beach’s 125th anniversary, the community will get to-gether for a family-friendly Winter Business Mixer & Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Ty-phoon Saloon from 5 to 8 p.m. The mixer will feature kids’ activities like a magician Santa and face painting from 6 to 7 p.m., as well as music by Big Daddy Blues starting at 7:30 p.m. Full Measure Carolers will also help ring in the holidays by dressing in traditional Charles Dickens-style costumes and delighting the crowd with the ensemble’s enchanting four-part harmony. Party guests can also test their knowledge of Pacific Beach with a history trivia scavenger hunt to increase their chances of winning a beach cruiser donated by Beach & Bay Press. Entrance to the event is $5 and includes appetizers, holiday deals, live music, networking opportunities and more. Typhoon Saloon is located at 1165 Garnet Ave. To RSVP, call (858) 273-3303 or email [email protected].
