Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar, for 17 years a Village staple of Asian fusion cuisine and a onetime target of national recognition, has closed its doors at 875 Prospect St. amid what its owner cites as a change in the Village’s restaurant environment.
A Nov. 3 published report notes that owner Sami Ladeki had been contemplating a remodel but acknowledged that neighborhood tastes had changed amid several recent openings and closings of prominent Prospect eateries. Ladeki reportedly added he might reopen the restaurant, part of the Ladeki Restaurant Group, in a smaller space.
Roppongi, which sought to combine Asian fare with French-style execution, was once named a World’s Top Restaurant by Zagat Survey and is a recipient of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence.
