Carolyn Whitney Thomas Meredith, 47, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 1, 2008.
Carolyn was born Feb. 15, 1960 in Astoria, Ore. and lived the last 20 years in Point Loma. Carolyn was raised in Rancho Santa Fe, graduating from La Jolla Country Day and Point Loma Nazarene University after earning a master’s degree in education.
Carolyn taught special education in the San Diego Unified School District. She was active in her Bible study group. Carolyn was known for her kindness by reaching out in love and nurturing others.
Although she was ill for a number of years with amyloidosis, she never gave up and never stopped living life to the fullest. Carolyn passed away while conducting a sightseeing trip to Cabrillo National Monument, where she was proudly showing a visitor our city and the monument to Cabrillo that her great-grandfather, Col. Edward Fletcher, donated to the city.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Whitney Lee Meredith; mother Eloise Fletcher Thomas; father Paul M. Thomas; brothers Peter and Jim Thomas and their families; aunt Karen Hancock and uncle Larry Thomas; aunt Carolyn Benson and uncle Stephen Fletcher and their families; and a longtime, dear friend, Joel Calhoun. We will all miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church chapel on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn’s name to the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, 2128 Chatsworth Blvd., San Diego, 92107.
