There are blood-sucking vampires lurking in your neighborhood waiting patiently to pounce on the perfect victim. They are blood-thirsty creatures with a population outnumbering that of mere mortal humans. They’re the inspiration for all things “Twilight” and the bane of many a pet parents existence. Of course I’m talking about fleas, not vampires 😉
Experienced San Diegans understand the need for quotation marks when I say, it’s flea “season.” If you’ve lived in San Diego long enough, you know the “season” is really a year-round battle that swells and contracts rather than begins and ends. Those new to San Diego along with seasoned veterans may find it difficult to adjust to the aggressive onslaught of the flea population, but rest assured, victory is possible … and a natural one at that!
Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) is a non-toxic, safe substance made up from crushed fossils of freshwater organisms and marine life. Crushed to a fine powder and observed through a microscope, the particles resemble bits of broken glass. D.E. is deadly to any insect yet completely harmless to animals. The microscopically sharp edges contact the insect or parasite, and pierce their protective coating, so they soon dehydrate and die. The larvae is affected in the same way.
D.E. is safe for pets and people. It can be sprinkled over your pets coat and used to treat floor and bedding in and around a pet’s sleeping quarters. When treating your home, be sure to treat surrounding cracks and crevices, baseboards, carpeting and wherever fleas are suspected to be hiding. Also, food grade D.E. can be ingested internally by pets to treat different types of ringworm and parasites naturally.
You can find both topical and food grade D.E. locally at our shop Kensington Pet Supply 4153 Adams Ave. San Diego, CA 92116 or online at Amazon.com.
