The window to file for candidacy in the upcoming elections for the Ocean Beach Town Council’s (OBTC) Board of Directors is quickly closing. Eight positions are currently up for grabs and letters declaring candidacy must be submitted no later than Monday, Aug. 15. Candidates for the board of directors must live in or own property in — or operate or work for a business at a physical location within — the 92107 ZIP code. Applicants must also be members in good standing of OBTC and must be at least 18 years old. Successful applicants for the OBTC board must attend at least two meetings each month (second and fourth Wednesdays) and actively participate in a number of OBTC events throughout the year like the Pancake Breakfast on the OB Pier, the holiday Food and Toy Drive fundraising campaign, the community holiday parade, and beach and alley cleanups. Anyone interested in serving on the OBTC board should submit a signed letter declaring their candidacy, stating their reasons for wanting to join the OBTC Board of Directors and describe any relevant experience or skills. Letters can be submitted via regular mail to the OBTC Election Committee, P.O. Box 7225, San Diego, 92107, postmarked no later than Aug. 15. Alternatively, letters may be sent by mail to [email protected] with “Letter Of Intent” in the subject line, and must be time stamped by midnight on Monday, Aug. 15,. Voting for the OBTC board positions takes place in the month of August. All candidates will be invited to address the open OBTC meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Newly-elected board members will start their term of office at the board meeting on Oct. 12. The OBTC provides discussion forums, hosts political debates and sponsors numerous community events. OBTC is also involved in all aspects of the community, from traffic and parking issues to discussions impacting Ocean Beach’s lasting identity and outlook.
