California Wild Ales, San Diego Sour and Ale House, announced the release of four new beers to coincide with this year’s Ocean Beach Oktoberfest, San Diego’s wildest Oktoberfest. Ocean Beach will host its annual Oktoberfest event on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8.

As part of the event, California Wild Ales is releasing four new fall-inspired wild ales to coincide with this neighborhood extravaganza including a German Chocolate Cake Dark Sour, Sour Apple Pie, Liquid Pumpkin Pie, and SourKraut. The brewery creates these unique seasonal flavors only once a year around and this year, is bringing back some old flavors as well as introducing two new ones this Oktoberfest season.

“Ocean Beach is a magical place that hosts a handful of neighborhood parties every year and Oktoberfest is one of the biggest. There will be fantastic music, delicious food, and of course, beer,” said Bill DeWitt, co-founder of California Wild Ales. “We hope these funky flavors will inspire craft beer lovers to don their lederhosen or dirndl dresses and join us in OB.”

“There will be a lot of activities in OB this weekend so make sure you do not miss out on these truly unique beers because we have a limited supply and when they are gone, they are gone,” DeWitt said.

“We always look forward to the OB neighborhood parties and wanted to make something really unique this year,” said Zack Brager, co-founder of California Wild Ales. “It’s a fun way to release some beers with familiar flavors that reflect the season and give people a taste of something totally new and different.”

Special release beers for Oktoberfest

  • German Chocolate Cake Wild Ale: Dark sour aged in whiskey barrels for 12 months and rested on whole Madagascar vanilla beans, Saigon cinnamon, toasted coconut, candied pecans, and semi-sweet chocolate.
  • Sour Apple Pie: Golden sour aged in oak barrels for 12 months and rested on Cosmic Crisp apples, Saigon cinnamon, vanilla, allspice, cloves, and other spices.
  • Liquid Pumpkin Pie: Golden sour aged in oak barrels for 12 months and rested on brown sugar-roasted pumpkin and a bevy of spices including nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and vanilla.
  • SourKraut: This barrel-aged sour is bright fuscia in color reminiscent of a Gose-style beer. This beer features fresh red cabbage, caraway seed, Maldon sea salt, and a pinch of juniper berries. The result is a gorgeous sour/salty combination perfect for celebrating Oktoberfest.

For the event, California Wild Ales will offer 16 beers on tap including those made especially for Oktoberfest, a number of additional sour beers as well as a lager, West Coast IPA, and hazy IPA. For a complete lineup of the beers on tap at 4896 Newport Ave., visit californiawildales.com.
