According to Casey Fields, if you combine a skill set that includes professional experience as an event planner, decorator and owner of an outdoor adventure company, and spin it in a tornado, what you will wind up with is The Point.
Located at 1010 Santa Clara Place in Mission Bay Park, The Point is a new and unique 3,000 square feet meeting space, co-founded by Fields, that is situated just steps away from an aquatic playground that spotlights the appeal of San Diego.
“We saw that many companies just want to have a space that they can rent for a day to focus, or think creatively,” Fields said. “In the long-term, people value experiences more than anything else, and we’re in the business of creating experiences away from the worksite. We call it California style offsite.”
Fields said that a key feature of her design is the ability to have synergy with the outdoors by incorporating plants, nine-foot-tall bay windows that overlook Mission Bay, a living chandelier, natural lighting and desks, drawers, walls and chairs made from sustainably farmed, and locally sourced materials recycled after the 2003 Cedar Fire.
To address the changing and unique needs of each user, Fields has incorporated a modular approach that extends to its conference room walls, which gives organizers the ability to reconfigure the entire space throughout the day, and customize the floor plan to suit their company’s particular needs for communication.
Once filled with barbell racks, row machines and dumb bells, The Point sits within the space that once housed the original Performance 360 gym, next door to the Mission Bay Sportcenter, where clients can rent jet-ski’s, paddleboards and other water sports equipment. A water taxi is available to shuttle people back and forth from other Mission Beach locations.
Tyler Jensen, CEO and founder of The Startup Garage, a business plan consulting company, said that he was attracted to The Point, because of its proximity to Mission Bay, and the opportunities it affords to be out on the water while enjoying the breeze and smells of the ocean.
“You see people out on the water all day laughing, and having a good time. It really brings out that vacation energy while you’re working. If you want to make your team feel relaxed, and get out of their heads and into a more creative space, this is an amazing place to come,” said Jensen.
Danielle Miano, director of business development for The Point, recalled attending corporate meetings in beautiful cities like San Diego, and being forced to spend most of her time in hotel rooms and lobbies. “We’ve created an environment where you can come and be connected to the outdoors and the environment that you’re visiting,” she said. “San Diego is a water-oriented lifestyle city and embraces the work life balance. We give companies the chance to be out on the bay and then back to an inviting space for breakout sessions with very little transition time.”
Chloe Hom Banales, co-founder of The Pineapple Project, an annual professional development conference for young entrepreneurs, said that when she went searching for an event space, she was inspired by the possibilities The Point offered. Banales said the locations modular design and proximity to the bay provided that good environment she was looking for.
“Your conference can be completely customized,” she said. “You can create whatever type of experience you want for your participants. ”
The Point is open seven days a week with hours of operation varying as needed. The space is available on an hourly, daily or multiday basis, and membership packages are available. Parking is free.
