
Brewer’s Dinner

Sycuan Casino (5469 Casino Way, El Cajon) will host its third Brewer’s Dinner starting at 6:30 p.m., this time with AleSmith Brewing Company. The four-course dinner will be served at the casino’s GameDay Sports Bar and Grill. The menu, designed specifically for the event, will include bacon-wrapped scallops, grilled flat iron steak and more. The food will be paired with AleSmith’s San Diego Pale Ale .394, Grand Cru, IPA, Wee Heavy and Barrel Aged Old Numbskull. Future Brewer’s Dinners are slated for May 24 and June 21. Golden Artistry jewelry design awards
May 1
This awards night, auction and competition will be hosted by Master Goldsmith Terry Whyte of Golden Artistry. Several finalists have submitted jewelry designs for the competition portion. Whyte will craft the winning design into two finished pieces using precious metal – one for the artist and the other for auctioning. Other items donated by local businesses will also be auctioned off. Money raised from the event will be donated to the Grossmont Union High School District’s art programs. La Mesa Beautiful Plant Sale
May 2 and 3
This two-day fundraiser features a wide variety of donated plants, making it the large sale of its kind in La Mesa. Plants for sale include trees, shrubs, vegetables, cacti, succulents and flowers. Non-profit La Mesa Beautiful hosts the sale each year with much of the proceeds supporting Cuyamaca College horticultural scholarship funds and Arbor Day celebrations at schools in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District. The sale will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (4816 Glen Street, La Mesa) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Visit LaMesaBeautiful.org for more information.

Spring Festival

Waldorf-inspired charter school NUA Sparrow is hosting its fourth annual Spring Festival at their school (4207 Spring Gardens Road, La Mesa). The event will include a maypole ceremony from 10 – 11:30 a.m., followed by the festival through 3 p.m. The event is free with nominal fees for crafts, activities and parking. Funds raised will support the school. There will be puppet shows, face painting, food, games and more. Live music will be provided by Hullabaloo, Kathryn the Grape, Teagan Taylor and Olmeca Roots. ‘Business After Five’ Mixer

The La Mesa Chamber of Commerce will host this mixer for Chamber members, local businesses and guests at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse (5500 Grossmont Center Drive) from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Attendees will learn about BJ’s locations and continued growth, plus enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drink specials. The Chamber will host a raffle and give away prizes throughout the night. Pricing for the event is free for the first 20 Chamber members to register, $10 for all other Chamber members, $15 for guests and $20 at the door.
