‘Art of Music’ concert series featuring Takae Ohnishi
April 16
The “Art of Music” by the San Diego Museum of Art (1450 El Prado, Balboa Park) is a concert series being held in conjunction with an exhibition of the same name. This month’s installment features harpsichordist Takae Ohnishi, who will present early Baroque music paired with contemporary compositions from Asia. 12th annual Treasure Bazaar
April 18
The Assistance League of Greater San Diego (ALGSD) will host its annual Treasure Bazaar at their thrift shop (108 University Ave., Hillcrest) from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Treasure Bazaar will sell high-value items that have been donated to the ALGSD including antiques, jewelry, vintage clothing and much more. Visitors will also have the opportunity to have rare books, paintings, small antiques and more assessed and receive a verbal evaluation from a professional appraiser for a fee of $5 per item. The nonprofit supports several philanthropic programs throughout the year with this event supporting Operation School Bell and others. Mission Hills Heritage 11th annual walking tour: ‘Prairie Style in Mission Hills’
April 18
These walking tours will leave every 10 – 15 minutes from 1 – 4 p.m. starting at Espresso Mio (1920 Fort Stockton Drive, Mission Hills). Docents leading the 60- to 90-minute tour will help attendees explore Prairie style homes, which came to the area about 100 years ago. The tour will detail the early occupants and history as well as the architects and builders of the homes built mostly from 1910 – 1920. Tickets are $10 for members of Mission Hills Heritage and $15 for nonmembers. Tickets include beverages and cookies following the tour. 15th annual Taste of Hillcrest
April 18
Once again, Taste of Hillcrest is set bring a self-guided culinary tour to the masses. The event will feature over 40 restaurants from noon – 4 p.m. Ticket holders will be able to visit the participating spots of their choice with cuisine options from seafood to Thai to sushi to pasta. Each location will offer a sampling of their fare, some including beverages and desserts. Registration will be held in the Rite Aid Pharmacy parking lot (535 Robinson Ave., Hillcrest) where you can pick up your ticket and event map starting at 11 a.m. For tickets and information visit FabulousHillcrest.com.
Meet the Poets
April 23
In honor of National Poetry Month, the Mission Hills Library (925 West Washington St.) will host this special event. The poets, who were featured in the latest edition of the “San Diego Poetry Annual” published by novelist William Harry Hardy, will be on hand to read their works. The 2014 – 15 edition features 259 poets and 311 poems according to a library press release. There is also a bilingual companion volume “Frontera Piel/Skin Border” containing 49 poems by 88 poets and translators.
