A number of local scholastic basketball teams have been hitting the hardwood in recent weeks.

The Vikings defeated an athletic Granite Hills of Apple Valley team, 57-54, dominated Francis Parker in a defensive battle, 44-34, and held off a solid Rancho Buena Vista team, 57-55.
Senior guards Jerrell Agnew and Spencer Moyer each averaged 13 points, with Moyer tallying 16 points, four assists and four steals in the title game.
Senior center Peter Sefton (Tournament MVP) and senior swingman Matt Jones worked inside, with Sefton averaging nine points and eight rebounds and Jones eight points and seven rebounds during the tournament.
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Torreys had a 2-6 record coming into play this week following four losses in the Above the Rim Tournament.
LJCD dropped contests to Perris (96-58), Lincoln (71-54), Cathedral (71-57) and Escondido (64-60).
The Bishop’s School (10-5) was in action in the MaxPreps Holiday Tournament.
The Knights defeated Leuzinger (50-48), then dropped games to Mission Hills (62-50), Clear Brook (Texas) 76-62, and La Mirada (70-56).
In girls action, La Jolla High was sporting a 3-9 record following recent play.
La Jolla lost its last two games in the Colts-Eagles Holiday Tournament, then dropped a pair of games in the Bonita Vista Tournament.
The losses at Bonita Vista came to Chula Vista (46-39) and San Diego High (50-35).
At La Jolla Country Day School, the Lady Torreys were sporting a 9-3 record following play in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
After dropping a 39-38 decision to Central Catholic (Ore.), LJCD scored wins over St. John’s (Washington, D.C.; 56-34), Lausanne Collegiate (Tenn.; 68-64) and Villa Marie Academy (Pa.; 50-47).
In the loss to Central Catholic, Janae Fulcher led the way with 15 points. In the win over St. John’s, Fulcher had a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Fulcher also led the way in the win over Lausanne Collegiate (20 points), while Dominique Conners added 15 points. Gillian Howard provided a defensive spark off the bench with three blocks.
In the victory over Villa Maria, Ariana Elegado paced the Lady Torreys with 14 points.
LJCD returned from the Nike Tourney and scored a 39-29 win over nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.).
Conners led all scorers with 19 points and Elegado added 10 points, making seven of eight free throws during crunch time at the end of the fourth quarter.
The Bishop’s School heads into play this week with a 12-3 record.
After winning their first 10 contests, the Lady Knights dropped three straight, only to rebound with two more victories.
