Several local scholastic basketball teams notched wins last week as league action plays on.
On the girls side, La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School improved to 13-5 overall and 2-0 in Coastal League South play with two victories on the road.
Last Tuesday night, the Lady Torreys traveled to Francis Parker for a match-up against the Lancers.
Playing again without top player Janae Fulcher, the Lady Torreys found themselves trailing by one at halftime. However, LJCD was able to come together and defeat Francis Parker 62-50 with a balanced team effort.
Jamesha Townsend posted a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Chelsea Burns contributed 15 points and Dominique Conners chipped in 13.
On Friday night, the Lady Torreys picked up their third Coastal League South victory at Canyon Crest Academy. LJCD once again showed a balanced attack in the 81-34 victory.
Townsend finished with 20 points, Conners with 16, and Lindsey Nettinga made three of her four 3-point attempts to finish with 14 points. Freshman Ariana Elegado showed her ability to run the offense for the Lady Torreys and finished with five assists. Sophomore Gizelle Studevent had an all-around game with nine points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists.
The Bishop’s School got 28 points from Kathleen Roehrkasse, but it wasn’t enough in a 62-44 loss to league foe Francis Parker last Friday.
Francis Parker held Bishop’s to a total of 17 points over the second and third quarters.
At La Jolla High, the Lady Vikings enter action this week at 8-6, 0-2 in league play.
La Jolla dropped league contests last week to Cathedral (63-39) and Scripps Ranch (51-42).
Alyssa Wilson led La Jolla with 25 points and Stephanie Guillou added 10 in the Cathedral loss, while Olivia Waldon added 25 in the Scripps defeat.
On the boys side, Scripps Ranch tallied 24 points in the final quarter en route to a 75-48 win over La Jolla last Friday.
Andrew Heap paced the Vikings with 15 points and Spencer Moyer added 14.
Elsewhere, La Jolla Country Day School jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead en route to an easy 62-46 win over Canyon Crest. Mark Schu paced the Torreys with 20 points.
Finally, Francis Parker handed The Bishop’s School its first league loss with a 65-63 decision last Friday evening. With the loss, the Knights fell to 14-4 overall, 2-1 in Coastal League play.
