The College Area Community Council has a new 12-member board of directors and reinvigorated mission, following a friendly break-up with the College Area Community Planning Board. The two groups operated in tandem for many years, with the same set of 20 board members.
The change, undertaken in February, unites the CACC with the College Area Community Coalition, a non-profit, California public benefit corporation.
As stated in its bylaws, the combined organization’s mission will be to conduct charitable and educational activities to preserve and improve the College Area’s physical qualities and to offer activities that encourage diverse inclusion and build social connections.
The new CACC board is made up of three At-Large and six Neighborhood reps and a trio of seats to be filled by representatives of the College Area Business District, the Associated Students of San Diego State University and the SDSU administration.
The CACC’s new directors, by category, are:
* At Large: Vanessa Dangerfield, Julie Hamilton and Eva Yakutis.
* Neighborhoods: Karen Austin, Alvarado Estates; Kristian Kuh, Baja Canyon; Jean Hoeger, College View Estates; B.J. Nystrom, El Cerrito; Troy Murphree, Mesa Colony; and Jim Jennings, The Triangle.
* Business District: Jim Schneider
* Associated Students: TBA
* SDSU administration: Rachel Gregg, who holds a non-voting board seat.
The board held its first meeting March 1 and selected Jennings as president; Yakutis as vice president; Hamilton, as secretary; and Schneider as treasurer.
The group plans to meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the College Area Business Office, 4704 College Avenue.
The CACC is a membership organization open to all residents, businesses and non-profits in the College Area. Current members of the old CACC are considered members of the new organization. New members are welcome.
