Cancer specialist receives more kudos
The board of directors at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, 10950 Road to the Cure, recently announced that Dr. Albert Deisseroth has been named to head clinical research at the facility.
“One of the goals of my life has always been to serve as a vehicle through which things of value are created for others and for society,” Deisseroth said. “Therefore, I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to provide leadership for the clinical research program at SKCC at a time when so many discoveries in the labs at SKCC are ready to transfer to the clinic.”
Deisseroth has served as CEO and president of the nonprofit cancer research center but will relinquish that position in order to take on his new role of clinical director
“The ultimate goal of any physician or physician-scientist is to make discoveries and to launch programs which will affect the lives of others in a constructive way, and improve the standard of care treatment outcome,” he said. “My own program has been empowered from the collaborative spirit at the SKCC and among all of the five cancer centers in San Diego.”

SPAWAR saluted for energy, efficiency
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has recognized the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Center San Diego (SSC San Diego), located in Point Loma, for its efforts in achieving significant energy savings while protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
In addition, two SSC San Diego energy managers were recognized for their work and are featured on the DOE’s commemorative “You Have the Power” posters.
The DOE’s Federal Energy Management Program created the “You Have the Power” campaign in 1997.
